Hayle Pioneerium Project – The vision

Hayle is a great place.  Built along a beautiful estuary, once central to Britain’s industry, and with the second highest number of holiday beds in West Cornwall, it should be a prime destination.

However, years of under-investment, low esteem and high unemployment have led to a town centre bypassed by visitors, and a sense of growing concern in the community.

But as the old saying goes, Hayle doesn’t need a few fish- it needs a fishing-net.

Hayle Pioneerium Project is about creating an enterprise culture.  The Pioneerium will be owned and operated by the community.  It will be a self-sustainable attraction, which benefits locals, businesses and visitors.  As well as creating jobs (many year-round), it will help address Hayle’s “leaky bucket” problem – many visitors to West Cornwall stay in Hayle, but after breakfast, they are nowhere to be seen.  After enjoying a trip to the Pioneerium, the visitor will stay in the town, enjoying the other attractions on offer, with a tremendous knock-on effect for local businesses.

Another long-term benefit is addressing the town’s skills-gap.  In the future, we hope that young Hayle entrepreneurs will say that they had their first experience of customer service training and business awareness at the Pioneerium.

And of course, we all want somewhere to play when it rains.

Join us to create this essential “fishing-net” for Hayle – and help the town to help itself.
